E. W. Moon, Inc. was assigned to lead on the civil and utility designs for the First/Boyle Station.

The scope of work of civil design included designing and preparing street restoration construction drawings including plans, profiles, paving sections and details to conform with City requirements and standards as well as preparing horizontal control calculations for vent and exit shaft penetrations at the ground surface. Work also included the site drainage area study to determine the amount of flood water expected during a 50 year and a 10-year recurrence interval storm. The study was based on drainage documents, aerial topography, researched utilities, drainage maps, and surveyed information. Hydraulic calculation methods used are described in the Drainage Manual of the Bureau of Engineering, City of Los Angeles. The hydrology calculations were based on current and planned zoning information obtained from the City of Los Angeles Planning Department. Utility design included evaluation of existing storm drains to determine their flow capacity and locate areas that may have potential to flood. E. W. Moon, Inc. also prepared a fire service drawing used by MTA Fire Life Safety to obtain Fire Department approval of station fire protection features. E. W. Moon, Inc. also reviewed design done by others and resolved conflicts with section designer’s drawings.
